Plenty of Action on the Flats, Creeks, and Pilings This Week
Vilano Point - St. Johns, FL
Inshore fishing around St. Augustine has been productive this week, with steady action for anglers targeting Redfish, Flounder, Black Drum, and Sheepshead. The creeks and grass flats have been holding slot-sized Redfish, especially during the early morning high tides. Soft plastics and live shrimp under popping corks have worked well, especially along oyster edges and drop-offs.
Flounder are showing up near sandy points and dock pilings, hitting mud minnows and jig-and-minnow combos. Black Drum continue to feed near bridges and deep structure, with fresh crab and shrimp producing bites. Sheepshead are still active around dock pilings and jetties, and fiddler crabs are the top bait for these finicky feeders.
Water clarity is improving as winds settle down, making sight casting possible during lower tides. The bite tends to slow mid-day, so morning and late afternoon trips are yielding the best results.
Whether you’re fishing solo or booking a charter, this is a great time to fish the local waters. Just be sure to bring sun protection, drinks, and a camera—there’s plenty of action to go around!
